Unizima, part of Univercells group, to Support Major UK Government-Funded Initiative to Strengthen Biotech Infrastructure in the Liverpool City Region
Liverpool, United Kingdom – May 12, 2025 – Unizima, a consultancy specialized in establishing sustainable bioproduction ecosystems, has joined a UK Government-backed initiative led by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) to strengthen the biotech landscape in Liverpool and its wider city region. The project has secured over EUR 5 million in grant funding through UK Research & Innovation (UKRI), following a competitive selection process.
The multi-partner initiative is focused on accelerating the transition from academic research to clinical applications and commercial biotech innovation, advancing the region’s translational medicine capabilities.
As part of the consortium, Unizima has been awarded a subgrant to contribute to two strategic workstreams:
- Gap analysis of lab infrastructure in the Liverpool region, with a focus on identifying key investment opportunities and potential for new platform technologies to support translation of innovative vaccine and drug research into new medicines.
- Engineering and feasibility studies to assess existing lab spaces, define upgrade requirements, and establish investment budgets and implementation timelines.
The project is expected to unfold over the next two years.
“We are proud to contribute our expertise to identify critical infrastructure needs and lay the groundwork for future-proofed biomanufacturing growth in the Liverpool City Region,” said Hala Audi, CEO of Unizima.
